Percy Sledge è morto: cantò When a Man Loves a Woman

Percy Sledge è morto. Il musicista e cantante statunitense, nato a Leighton il 25 novembre 1940, è scomparso proprio oggi, nella mattina del 14 aprile 2015. E’ da poco uscita la notizia, confermata dal coroner Dr. William “Beau” Clark.

Dopo aver firmato un contratto discografico, il suo primo singolo, When a Man Loves a Woman, pubblicato nel 1966, ebbe uno straordinario successo in tutto il mondo, arrivando alla prima posizione della Billboard Hot 100. Fu uno sei suoi più grandi successi e divenne un vero e proprio classico.

Nel 1991 Michael Bolton fece una cover del brano che arrivò al primo posto della classifica americana facendo ottenere, allo stesso Bolton, un Grammy Award per la performance.
