Carly Rae Jepsen e Owl City devono pagare 800.000$ per Good Time: accusa di plagio

Ricordate Carly Rae Jepsen? Esplosa con il tormentone “Call Me Maybe” ha poi ottenuto un discreto (ma inferiore) successo con Owl City nel duetto di “Good Time”. Il suo album di debutto, poi, è stato presto dimenticato ed è scomparso nelle classifiche internazionali (a partire dalla Billboard 200). In attesa del suo nuovo disco, ecco arrivare una brutta notizia per Carly Rae e Owl City.

Il loro pezzo del 2012 è stato giudicato troppo simile a “Ah, It’s A Love Song” e hanno così perso una causa intentata contro di loro nel mese di ottobre 2012 per violazione del copyright relativa proprio alla loro canzone di successo, Good Time, e condannati a pagare 800 mila dollari

Il brano, uscito nel 2012, aveva troppe similitudini con la canzone di Ally Burnett, pubblicata due anni prima senza però ottenere il riscontro del pubblico. Ed ecco quindi, a ottobre 2012, la decisione di dare luogo ad una vera e propria causa. E la Burnett ha vinto, ottenendo un elevato rimborso. E così, BMI, la società che possiede i diritti d’autore della canzone, ora deve sborsare $ 804.156 a titolo di risarcimento per il convenuto dopo la sentenza.
