Prete canta Hallelujah di Leonard Cohen ad un matrimonio: video

Sposarsi a ritmo di musica, chi non lo vorrebbe? E non si una musica qualunque, ma di una delle canzoni più belle della storia: è quanto è successo ai due sposini irlandesi Leah e Chris, che giunti all’altare per consacrare la loro unione nel cosiddetto sacro vincolo si sono trovati davanti un prete in vena di momenti epici.

Il sacerdote, Padre Ray Kelly della parrocchia di Oldcastle, County Meath, in Irlanda, ha infatti omaggiato i due sposi con una particolarissima versione a cappella di Hallelujah, il brano ispirato all’Antico Testamento scritto da Leonard Cohen che ricevette l’immortalità dalla cover che ne fece Jeff Buckley nel 1994.

Lo stupore dei due sposi è ben visibile: stando a quanto raccontato dal prete, non si aspettavano minimamente un regalo simile, anzi, probabilmente si aspettavano una tradizionale omelia e celebrazione. E’ stato lo stesso Padre Kelly a raccontarlo alla BBC:

Le persone di qui sanno che normalmente canto ai matrimoni, ai funerali o quando me lo chiedono, ma loro non lo sapevano: la sposa, Leah, è di Dublino e lo sposto Chris è di Cookstown. Avevano la festa in un hotel a 10 miglia da qui e hanno scelto la nostra chiesa; abbiamo provato giovedì sera e alla fine ho detto “bene, magari canterò una vecchia canzone per voi”, Leah ha fatto un gran sorriso e ha detto “ok” ma non credo che mi stesse prendendo molto sul serio.

Il video di Padre Kelly che intona la sua personalissima cover di Hallelujah da dedicare ai due novelli sposi sbigottiti dalla sorpresa ha superato ad oggi i 23 milioni di visualizzazioni su Youtube: potete guardarlo in apertura di post. Naturalmente il prete cantante è diventato una vera star del web, ma si schermisce di fronte alle richieste di concerti che gli arrivano:
